  • This is What We Love

    • The extremely friendly staff who will go the extra mile to help you out
    • The local flavour kitchen. Its all about Costeña food here!
    • There are great cheap eats on your doorsteps including Malagana Café & Bar and Pardesh Indian Restaurant
    • Free Wi-Fi
    • Spacious and quiet chillout areas including a spa with sauna and Jacuzzi
  • What you Need to Know

    • The terrace is a great place to relax but don't expect a tremendous view.
    • The street outside can get busy with traffic and people but thankfully the hotel interiors allow you to escape the noise
    • The swimming pools are inviting but 50 lengths won't have too much of an impact on the wasteline

Not many people seem to know about Casa Canabal. And they should. Maybe it's the name that piques one's interest, confusedly. What could the name possibly mean? No, it's nothing to do with Cannibals.

The hotel was named after colonial era presidential contender Eusebio María Canabal, a prominent doctor who signed the independence act of 1811. He lived on same street as the hotel.

Cool serenity is the key comfort to this spacious hotel (a grand 3200 sq m) - a welcome relief from the colourful yet bustling street outside. The large rooftop terrace encompasses not only two gazebos but also a sub terrace for romantic meals. The stylish spot is the perfect place to relax and soak up the sun with your made-to-order cocktail.

The rooms don't disappoint, imbuing relaxation with earthy tones of creams, cinnamon and chocolate. All three room options (Suite, Junior Suite and Standard) have generous showers in stellar bathrooms.

The Suites (201 & 210) offer the best deal at Casa Canabal - you can people-watch the motley street scenes from your balcony, whilst enjoying a spacious living room area leading up to a cosy loft for two. The large couches downstairs can sleep two extra people.

LOCATION

  • Centro

Cartagena's nerve centre serves up breathtaking colonial architecture, the city's top attractions, finest hotels, eateries and drinking dens as well as being the administrative and cultural heart of the city.

Centro has lost none of its importance thanks to the universal lure of its colonial pomp and the concentration of government buildings, hotels, tourist attractions, bars and restaurants in the area.

Cartagena's finest hotels and restaurants have taken over the uber-casas built by slave traders and Spanish plunderers in the 17th century.

The richest residents knocked up stunning two and three-storey mansions by the westernmost tip of the walled city, where they bagged the sea breeze and first whiff of pirates. Today only those at the very top of Colombia's rich list can afford to maintain these opulent houses in their original residential state.
